These ingredients are harmless for most people, but for reactive skin they are frequently the cause. Once you know to look for them, shopping gets a lot easier.
What does genuinely fragrance-free mean?
Genuinely fragrance-free means no fragrance of any kind has been added to the formula, including masking fragrances. An "unscented" product is not always the same thing: brands sometimes add masking agents to neutralise other smells, and those agents are still fragrance ingredients. For reactive skin, fragrance-free is the standard worth insisting on.

Which ingredients are worth avoiding for eczema-prone skin?
The ingredients most commonly associated with irritation in sunscreens are fragrance, essential oils, certain preservatives, and oxybenzone, a UV-filtering ingredient that can cause contact sensitivity in some people.
Our SPF50+ Sensitive Skin Sunscreen is free from all nine of the following: Oxybenzone, Parabens, Phthalates, Sulphates, Petroleum, Triclosan, BPA, Essential Oils, and Fragrance. That is the deliberate part of the formulation, and it is designed for sensitive, reactive, and eczema-prone skin.
On the positive side, there are ingredients that support comfortable, calm skin. The formula is infused with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E, with Glycerin alongside them. Aloe Vera is well known for its calming and hydrating properties. Vitamin E helps support the skin's nourishment and comfort. Glycerin draws moisture in and helps skin feel soft.
Has the SPF been independently verified?
Yes. The sunscreen has been independently tested by Eurofins Dermatest to a mean SPF of 61.0 (ISO 24444 and AS/NZS 2604:2012). The 95% confidence interval was 57.8 to 64.1, and the full results are published on our SPF testing page.
It is also TGA-registered (ARTG AUST L 391791), Australian made, and manufactured at Delta Laboratories in Somersby, NSW under strict TGA guidelines. For skin that has reacted before, verified performance and a named manufacturer matter more than any front-of-pack promise.
Should I patch test a new sunscreen first?
Yes, especially for babies and children with highly reactive or eczema-prone skin. Apply a small amount to the inside of the wrist or elbow, leave it for 24 to 48 hours, and watch for any redness, itching, or irritation. If there is no reaction, it is generally fine to use as normal. If there is a response, check the ingredient list against anything you have identified as a known trigger, and speak with your GP or dermatologist.
